2.12.3. Adjustment of a tension

GENERAL INFORMATION

Prevention

For adjustment of a tension of a gear belt it is necessary to use the special Opel tool No. KM-510-A. In the absence of the special tool adjustment of a tension of a gear belt needs to be made at specialized service station.

Check of a tension of the gear belt which was in the use is made on the heated-up engine, and a new gear belt on the cold engine.

Check of a tension of a gear belt

When checking a tension of a gear belt hand fingers the belt has to turn on 90 °.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Release brackets of fixing and remove the main casing of a gear belt, then remove a smaller casing from the water pump.
2. Turn a bent shaft the engine clockwise at least on 1/4 turns.
3. Install the special measuring tool on a gear belt in the center between pulleys of the water pump and camshaft. The tool has to settle down on a belt, as shown in the drawing the Correct installation of the special tool for measurement of a tension of a gear KM-510-A belt.
4. Slowly release the lever on the special tool, then several times easily strike the tool and read indications of a tension of a gear belt (see rice. Measurement of a tension of a gear belt on the engine of 1,6 l).
5. If the tension of a gear belt differs from demanded, weaken three bolts of fastening of the water pump and, turning the pump, adjust a tension of a gear belt. At turn of the pump clockwise the tension of a gear belt increases, and at turn counterclockwise the tension decreases.
6. Tighten bolts of fastening of the water pump.
7. Remove the special tool for measurement of a tension of a gear belt and turn a bent shaft of the engine on 1 whole revolution clockwise.
8. Repeatedly check a tension of a gear belt.
9. If the tension of a gear belt does not correspond to the required value, repeatedly make adjustment of a tension.
10. After adjustment of a tension of a gear belt remove the special measuring tool and tighten bolts of fastening of the water pump the required moment and establish casings of a gear belt.
11. In the absence of the special tool adjust a tension of a gear belt so that at turn of a gear belt hand fingers with application of moderate pressure in the center between pulleys of the water pump and camshaft the gear belt turned on 90 °.
