Prevention
You make removal of a head of the block of cylinders on the cold engine.
At installation it is necessary to use new bolts of fastening and new laying of a head of the block of cylinders. At ustan ке cases of the camshaft it is necessary to use sealant. The specified moments of tightening can be applied only to later bolts. When using bolts of early types specify the tightening moments at the dealer of Opel.

Removal
| PERFORMANCE ORDER |
| 1. The head of the block of cylinders can be removed together with an inlet collector or previously having removed an inlet collector from a head of the block of cylinders. |
| 2. Take off a gear belt, pulleys of the camshaft, mechanism of a tension and an intermediate pulley. |
| 3. Unscrew top and average are firm for screws of fastening of an external casing of a gear belt. Pay attention that the top rack is unscrewed from a head of the block of cylinders, and the average rack is attached by a bolt. |
| 4. Unscrew two top bolts of fastening of a back casing of a gear belt to a head of the block of cylinders. |
| 5. Uncover the distributor of ignition and high-voltage wires. |
| 6. Unscrew a bolt, the fixing arm of a pipe of ventilation of a case to an end face of a head of the block of cylinders. |
| 7. Check that hoses, pipes and electric sockets are disconnected from a head of the block of cylinders. |
| 8. On the X20 XEV model remove the camshaft. |
| 9. Using a face key, in the sequence shown on rice. The sequence of unscrewing of bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders on engines 20 XEJ and C20 XE, the Sequence of unscrewing of bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders on the X20 XEV engine, unscrew bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders first of all on a quarter of a turn, then on a half of a turn and, at last, unscrew them completely. |
| 10. Remove a head of the block of cylinders. |
| 11. Remove laying of a head of the block of cylinders. At installation it is necessary to use new laying. |

Preparation for installation
| PERFORMANCE ORDER |
| 1. The interfaced surfaces of a head and the block of cylinders have to be absolutely pure. For their cleaning use a firm plastic or wooden scraper. When cleaning be careful as it is very easy to damage aluminum alloy. Check that the deposit did not get to oil and water canals. It is especially important for the lubrication system as the deposit can block supply of oil to engine components. If necessary clear channels. |
| 2. Check the interfaced surfaces of a head and the block of cylinders for existence of notches, deep scratches and other damages. If defects small, they can be removed with machining. But at major defects of a detail are subject to replacement. |
| 3. Using a metal ruler and the probe, check planeness interfacing my surfaces. |
| 4. Clear openings under bolts in the block. Screwing up of a bolt in the opening filled with oil can break off the block because of hydraulic pressure. |
| 5. Replace bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders irrespective of their state. |

Installation
| PERFORMANCE ORDER |
| 1. Check that new laying of a head of the block of cylinders has the same type, as the original and establish laying so that marking of OBEN or TORAHS was directed up and settled down from a gear belt. |
| 2. Establish a head of the block of cylinders on the directing pins. |
| 3. Temporarily establish pulleys of a bent shaft and camshafts and check that adjusting tags of pulleys coincide with indexes. |
| 4. Establish new bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders and tighten them at this stage by hand. |
| 5. Gradually and consistently tighten all bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders the required moment in several stages. |
| 6. Further installation is made in the sequence, the return to removal taking into account the next moments. |
| 7. Install the mechanism of a tension of a gear belt, an intermediate pulley, pulleys of camshafts and a new gear belt. Adjust a tension of a gear belt. |
