15.8. Replacement of brake shoes of the emergency brake on back disk brakes

GENERAL INFORMATION

With back brake disks the emergency brake works at models irrespective of the hydraulic brake system. At the same time brake shoes of drum type are used, and as the brake drum an internal part of a brake disk is used.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. For check of a condition of blocks of the emergency brake on models with SOHC engines it is necessary to remove a nave / a brake disk.
2. For check of a condition of brake shoes of the emergency brake on models with DOHC engines it is necessary to remove a brake disk.
3. After removal of a nave / a brake disk or a brake disk check a condition of overlays of brake shoes. Even if the limit of wear was reached by only one block, replace all blocks of the emergency brake in a set.

MODELS WITH THE SOHC ENGINE

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Observing care and security measures, clear all traces of brake dust from the brake drum, a brake board and blocks.
2. Disconnect a cable of the emergency brake and a returnable spring from a control lever of the emergency brake on a brake board. If necessary the regulator weaken a cable of the emergency brake.
3. Using flat-nose pliers, remove a plate of a spring of fixing of a brake shoe, pressing a plate and turning it on 90 °°. Remove a spring and take a clamp pin.
4. Remove assembled brake shoes, the regulator, a control lever of the emergency brake and returnable springs.
5. Note an arrangement and orientation of all elements of the emergency brake, then disconnect the top and lower returnable springs from brake shoes and remove a control lever of the emergency brake and the regulator.

Installation

Installation of the lower returnable spring on brake shoes on models with the SOHC engine

The correct arrangement of elements of the emergency brake on models with the SOHC engine

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Apply a thin film of high-temperature lubricant on a regulator carving, then reduce regulator length to minimum possible. Also apply a thin film of high-temperature lubricant on places of contact of brake shoes with a brake board.
2. Establish a front brake shoe and fix by a spring and a plate of a spring.
3. Establish a control lever of the emergency brake.
4. Establish a back brake shoe and fix by a spring and a plate of a spring.
5. Establish the top returnable spring on brake shoes.
6. Install the regulator between the lower ends of brake shoes, then establish the lower returnable spring on blocks (see rice. Installation of the lower returnable spring on brake shoes on models with the SOHC engine, the Correct arrangement of elements of the emergency brake on models with the SOHC engine).
7. Install a cable of the emergency brake on the lever and then establish a returnable spring.
8. Establish a nave / a brake disk and adjust a bearing side play.
9. Similarly replace blocks of the emergency brake on the second wheel.
10. Check adjustment of a cable of the emergency brake.
11. Establish wheels and lower the car. Tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel the required moment.

MODELS WITH THE DOHC ENGINE

3. Remove clamps of brake shoes together with springs for what turn them the screw-driver. Note an arrangement of all details of the emergency brake. Disconnect the top and lower returnable springs from brake shoes and remove the lever of the emergency brake and the regulator.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Apply a thin film of high-temperature lubricant on a regulator carving, then reduce regulator length to minimum possible. Also apply a thin film of high-temperature lubricant on places of contact of brake shoes with a brake board.
2. Establish a front brake shoe and fix by a spring and a plate of a spring.
3. Establish a control lever of the emergency brake.
4. Establish a back brake shoe and fix by a spring and a plate of a spring.
5. Establish the lower returnable spring.
6. Install the regulator between the top ends of brake shoes and the top returnable spring (see rice. An arrangement of the regulator and the top returnable spring on brake shoes of the emergency brake on models with DOHC engines).
7. Establish a cable of the emergency brake and a returnable spring on a control lever of the emergency brake.
8. Establish a brake disk.
9. Similarly replace blocks of the emergency brake on the second wheel.
10. Check adjustment of a cable of the emergency brake.
