12:10. Removal and installation of the transmission

GENERAL INFORMATION

Prevention

Removal and installation of the transmission – rather difficult operation therefore before its performance read the present section. At removal of the transmission it is necessary to use the special equipment for support of the engine. At installation of the transmission it is necessary to use the special tool for installation of an entrance shaft of the transmission in coupling.

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Remove a weight wire from the accumulator.
2. In a motor compartment weaken tightening a bolt, the fixing rod of the mechanism of the choice of transfers to draft. Separate a rod of the mechanism of the choice of transfers from draft for what move a rod to a partition of a motor compartment.
3. Remove a fastening bracket, then separate a carving tip of a cable of coupling from the squeezing lever for what previously move the lever to a partition of a motor compartment. Remove a coupling cable cover from an arm on a case of the transmission and move a coupling cable aside.
4. Disconnect the electric socket from the switch of lamps of a backing which is located from the forward party of the transmission over the left fixing arm.
5. Unscrew the connecting plug and take a speedometer drive cable from the transmission.
6. Unscrew three top bolts fixing the transmission to the engine.
7. Support the engine about its left support. For support of the engine it is necessary to use the special Opel tool No. KM-263. Alternatively the engine can be supported from an ispolzov niy the load-lifting mechanism.
8. In the presence take off caps from wheels, then weaken bolts of fastening of forward wheels. Tighten the emergency brake, then lift a forward part of the car and record on supports. Keep in mind that the car has to be lifted rather highly in order that from under it it was possible to take the transmission. Remove forward wheels.
9. Check that the engine is reliably supported, then remove a forward lower frame.
10. Take internal hinges of power shafts from differential and, using a soft wire, suspend power shafts to a car body. Close openings for shaft in the transmission suitable traffic jams.
11. Unscrew a nut and remove the grounding tire from a cover in a transmission end face.
12. Install the corresponding container under a cover in a transmission end face, then unscrew bolts and uncover. Note an arrangement of a bolt which fixes also the grounding tire. For improvement of access to a cover remove a wheel arch insert.
13. Remove laying of a cover.
14. Using special flat-nose pliers, remove lock rings from the internal ends of power shafts.
15. Unscrew a bolt from an end face of an entrance shaft of the transmission.
16. Take an entrance shaft of the transmission from a clutch plate nave. If coupling repair is not required, it can be not unscrewed from a flywheel.
17. Support by a jack through wooden whetstone the transmission.
18. Remove the left support of the transmission for what unscrew two bolts fixing a rubber pillow to a body of the car and three bolts fixing a support arm to the transmission (see rice. Arrangement of bolts of fastening of the left support of the transmission).
19. Unscrew bolts and remove a protective plate from the coupling case basis.
20. Check reliability of support of the transmission, then unscrew the remained bolts of fastening of the transmission to the engine.
21. Lower the transmission and take it from under the car.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Using a tap of M10x1,25, clear in a body a carving for bolts of fastening of a rubber pillow of the left support of the transmission.
2. On models with a flat flywheel it is the most convenient to make installation of coupling after installation of the transmission.
3. Place the transmission under a forward part of the car on a jack with wooden whetstone.
4. Lift the transmission and screw in the lower bolts of fastening of the transmission to the engine, but do not tighten them finally at this stage.
5. Establish the left support of the transmission, at the same time for fastening of a rubber pillow to a body use new bolts. Tighten the required moment all bolts of fastening of the left support of the transmission.
6. Tighten the required moment earlier screwed in bolts of fastening of the transmission to the engine and take a jack from under the transmission.
7. If acted, establish coupling. Move an entrance shaft of the transmission to a clutch plate nave.
8. Screw in a bolt in an end face of an entrance shaft of the transmission and establish a new lock ring.
9. Using new laying, establish a cover in an end face of the transmission and fix by bolts, having tightened them the required moment. Check that the bolt fixing the grounding tire is established on the place.
10. Install the tire of grounding of the transmission on a bolt and fix by a nut.
11. Establish and fix by bolts a protective plate on the basis of a coupling case.
12. Insert the internal ends of power shafts into differential, at the same time use new lock rings.
13. Establish the lower forward frame.
14. Establish forward wheels.
15. Remove the special device for support of the engine.
16. Lower the car on the earth, then tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel the required moment and, in the presence, establish caps on wheels.
17. Screw in three top bolts of fastening of the transmission to the engine and tighten them the required moment.
18. Connect a speedometer drive cable to the transmission and fix it by the adjusting plug.
19. Connect the electric socket to the switch of lamps of a backing.
20. Fix a coupling cable cover in an arm on a transmission case, then connect a carving tip of a cable of coupling with the squeezing lever and adjust coupling cable length. Check correctness of an arrangement of a cable of coupling.
21. Connect a rod of the mechanism of the choice of transfers to draft, then adjust drafts and tighten tightening a bolt.
22. Check oil level in the transmission and, if necessary, bring it to norm.
23. Connect a weight wire to the accumulator.
